MakeAlias

Introduction
MakeAlias allows you to select objects from the Admins desktop, or, depending on how the application has been configured, from a specific location relative to the Admin desktop, and alias (copy) them to a selection of users. Multiple users can be selected at the same time, as can objects to Alias.

Selecting Items To Alias
The list of items available to be aliased is displayed in the left hand column labeled What To Alias. This list is relative to the  Admin Desktop, and will typically consist of Conferences, Folders and Calendars.

The Path button displays the full path to the listed object. This is also displayed on screen to the right of the Path button.

Double-clicking on a displayed item will drill down to the next level, if there is one. Once in a sub-level, the first entry in the list will be a .. which will take you back up a level when double-clicked.

Click on the item you want to alias; it will become bold. Repeat the process until you have selected all of the items currently displayed that you want to alias to the selected users.

Click on the Add button to add all of the selected items to the list in the 1. What tab on the right hand pane of the screen - Selected Objects to Alias.

You can double-click on any of the items in the Selected Objects To Alias list to see the full path to the item.

If the Use Attributes option is ticked, object attributes such as the horizontal and vertical position of the object will be preserved. These attributes, along with the icon to use and whether or not to protect the object can be edited. The attributes of the selected object in the list are displayed.

To clear the list, click on the Clear button.

Displaying the List of Users
Once you have selected the objects you want to alias to users, you need to select the users to alias them too. This is done from the 2. Who tab.

Click on the Go button to generate a list of users to alias objects to. Results will be displayed in the "Who To Alias It To" list.

The number of returned matches is displayed in the left of the bottom toolbar. If there are more matches than can be displayed (1,100 per list by default), the total number of matches will also be displayed. You may need to refine your selection criteria to access the remaining entries.

Click on the Clear button to clear out the returned results from previous searches.

Filtering the Returned Results
You can narrow your search by using either the Filter by: field or one of the Quick Filter buttons in conjunction with the Groups drop-down list.

Filter by:              allows you enter part of a persons name and only return those names that match. You can filter by first name, surname or a combination of both e.g.
A filter of "Ca" will find all users whose first name begins with Ca
A filter of " Be" will find all users whose last name begins with Be (Note the space in front of the B)
A filter of "Ca Be" will find all users whose first name begins with Ca and whose last name begins with Be

Quick Filter:   clicking on one of these buttons will automatically generate a search filtered by the appropriate range of surnames e.g.
Clicking on the "A-E" quick filter will return all users whose surnames begin with A or B or C or D or E.

Groups:         this list of can be used to restrict the returned list of names to a particular Privilege Group. To disable the group filtering, select the All Users group.

None of the filters are case sensitive.

Selecting Users
Once a list of users have been displayed, you can select individual users to alias the objects to by ticking the checkbox next to their name. To unselect the user click on the checkbox a second time to clear it.

Bulk Select
Clicking on the "Bulk Select" button (+/-) at the top of the column will select all the names in the list. Clicking it again will clear all of the ticks.

Update
Once you have selected at least one user to alias items to, and at least one item to alias, the Update button will appear on the bottom toolbar. Clicking the update button will commit the changes you have made.

A large number of changes to a large number of users may take a while. A progress bar will display thoughout the update process.

Clear
Clicking Clear will empty the list of items to alias.

Email
Once you have selected at least one user to alias items to, and at least one item to alias, the Email button will appear on the form. Email sends an email to your mailbox, containing the Batch Admin script needed to perform the aliasing for all the selected users and the items that they will have aliased to their desktop.

Current Version
Clicking on the Question Mark in the upper-right hand corner of the form will display the current version of the application.

Exit
The Exit button will close the application. If you have uncommited changes selected, you will be prompted to make sure you do want to discard them.
